Al Ahly Sporting Club made history by winning the African Women’s Basketball League (WBLA) title for the first time after a dominant 77–51 victory over Ferroviario de Maputo in the final. The tournament, hosted at the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Sports Hall in Cairo, saw Al Ahly deliver an outstanding performance from start to finish, controlling the game with strong defensive organization and fast, accurate offensive execution. The Egyptian champions imposed their rhythm early and maintained their lead throughout the four quarters, leaving no doubt about their superiority in the final.
The title crowned an exceptional campaign for Al Ahly, who finished the competition undefeated with a perfect 6–0 record, becoming only the second Egyptian club to lift the African title after Sporting Alexandria. The historic triumph was further highlighted by Raneem Elgedawy being named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, reflecting the team’s collective strength and individual brilliance. This achievement confirms Al Ahly’s growing dominance in African women’s basketball and marks a major milestone for the club on the continental stage.
Al Ahly Sporting Club president Mahmoud El Khatib congratulated the women’s basketball team after their historic triumph in the African Clubs Championship. He extended his appreciation to the players, as well as the technical, administrative, and medical staff, following the well-deserved title that concluded on Sunday evening.
El Khatib praised the team’s outstanding performance, high technical level, and strong determination throughout the tournament, highlighting their role in securing the championship. He also noted that this continental success came shortly after the team’s victory in the Associated League, underlining the consistency and quality of the squad. According to the Al Ahly president, these achievements are the result of collective teamwork and continuous development within the club’s sports sector.
