Egyptian table tennis .. Dominating African championships and shining in international competitions



The Egyptian Table Tennis Federation, headed by Major General Ashraf Helmy, achieved a great accomplishment by winning the 2026 African Cup held in Libya, and five players qualified for the World Table Tennis Championship scheduled to be held next month in Macau, China. They are Hana Gouda, Dina Meshref, and Mariam El-Hodaiby in the women's competitions, while Omar Assar qualified in the men's competitions، This is based on their outstanding results in the Africa Cup of Nations.

In the women's singles competition, the 2026 Africa Cup final was an all-Egyptian affair, with Hana Gouda defeating champion Dina Meshref 4-0 to win the Africa Cup of Table Tennis title for the second time in a row and the fourth time in her career.

Egypt’s champions continued their brilliance by achieving a perfect score in the tournament, after Egypt won two gold medals in the African Cup, with Hana Gouda winning the gold medal in the women’s singles, and Omar Asar winning the gold medal in the men’s singles.

Egypt has a history of achievements in table tennis, both in African and world championships:

Omar Asar achieved fifth place at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, becoming the first Egyptian and second Arab athlete to reach this level.

He also qualified for the quarterfinals of the 2023 World Championships and reached a world ranking of 13th, the highest ranking ever achieved by an Egyptian and Arab athlete.

The duo of Youssef Abdel Aziz and Mohamed El-Baily also achieved tenth place globally and fifth place in the 2025 World Doubles Championship for the first time since 1951.

Hana goda became the youngest player to win the African Women’s Championship, and she won the bronze medal at the World Junior Championships in Sweden, and was crowned African Cup champion 4 times.

Paralympic player Ibrahim Hamadto is also a global icon for his ability to play with his mouth and feet, achieving fame and outstanding accomplishments with his style of play, as he is considered the first player in the history of the Paralympic Games to play table tennis using his mouth.

These championships confirm that Egyptian table tennis is the leading force in the African continent, and a strong competitor on the international stage in recent years.
