Egyptian Women in the Olympics: A Journey of Progress

Egyptian women first competed at the Olympics in 1984 in Los Angeles, marking the start of their international journey. Participation steadily grew, reaching 15 athletes in Sydney 2000 and 37 in Rio 2016, where Sara Ahmed won Egypt’s first Olympic medal for a woman in weightlifting.

In Tokyo 2020, 48 women competed, winning three medals across weightlifting, karate, and taekwondo. By Paris 2024, 52 athletes represented Egypt, with Sara Samir earning silver, showing that Egyptian women continue to make their mark on the Olympic stage.
