Mohamed El-Sayed: A Rising Force in International Épée Fencing


Mohamed El-Sayed (born 3 March 2003) is a prominent Egyptian épée fencer and one of the most promising talents of his generation on the international stage. He began practicing fencing at a young age, demonstrating exceptional aptitude and rapid development, which enabled him to join the Egyptian national team early in his career and compete in major international tournaments.

El-Sayed represented Egypt at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games, where he gained valuable experience competing against some of the world’s elite fencers. This early exposure contributed significantly to his technical and tactical growth. His performance reached a new peak at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, where he secured the bronze medal in the men’s individual épée event. This achievement marked a historic milestone, underscoring Egypt’s growing presence in high-performance fencing on the global stage.

Beyond the Olympic arena, El-Sayed has achieved considerable success in regional and continental competitions. At the 2022 Mediterranean Games held in Oran, Algeria, he won the gold medal in the men’s individual épée event, delivering a series of outstanding performances that reflected his technical precision and composure under pressure.

At the African level, El-Sayed has established himself as one of the continent’s leading fencers through consistent and distinguished performances. He earned a bronze medal at the 2019 African Championships in Bamako, followed by multiple gold medals at the 2022 African Championships in Casablanca in both the individual and team events. In 2023, he continued his success at the African Championships in Cairo, winning a gold medal in the team event and a silver medal in the individual competition. He further reinforced his dominance by securing another gold medal at the 2024 African Championships in Casablanca.

El-Sayed is widely recognized for his strategic intelligence, rapid reflexes, and ability to anticipate and counter opponents’ movements effectively. His disciplined approach, competitive resilience, and psychological composure in high-pressure situations have been key factors in his success.
